DAY
of
DE BRAOSE
of
The family came from Bramber Castle (Sussex) as well as having extensive estates in Wales. The crosses remember the family's involvement in the Crusades.
DE CLARE
of Long Wittenham.
The family were Earls of Gloucester, Hertford & Pembroke. They had large estates in Wales, but their main residence was Clare Castle in Suffolk.
DE LA BECHE
This family held many high offices during the reigns of Kings Edward I, II & III. They lived at the castles of La Beche in Aldworth & Beaumys in Swallowfield and are most famous for their 'giant' effigial monuments in Aldworth Church. The coat of arms may be intended to represent beech trees as a pun on the family name.
DE LA BERE
The family came from Kinnersley & Stretford in Herefordshire, but were Sheriffs of Berkshire and probably owned estates at Bere Place in Wargrave and Bere Court in Pangbourne. They were ancestors of the A'Bear family of Harehatch.
DE LA MARE
of Aldermaston.
A branch of the great Somerset family, they inherited the manor of Aldermaston.
DESPENSER
The family were Lords Le Despenser and principally resided in Gloucestershire.
DEVEREUX
of
DINLEY
of Stanford Dingley.
DUNCH
of Little Wittenham.
They were famous parliamentarians, closely related to the Cromwells. The castles on their coat of arms may represent Welsh forts or 'Dins' as a pun on the family name.
