Where the Monks made Money
|
- Abbeys near rivers might have their
own wharf.
- This was where the monks did much
of their trading.
- Merchants often moved their
goods around the country by river.
- The monks could charge merchants
for unloading their goods at the abbey wharf.
- This made the monks very rich.
- The wharf would have lots of
equipment for unloading heavy goods from boats.
- There would also be warehouses for
storing goods.
